Rajahmundry is one of the oldest cities in andhra pradesh , now officially called Rajamahendravaram . It was established by Raja Raja Narendra in 11 the century and it the birth place of telugu language . It is also called as the Cultural capital of andhra pradesh . Places to see in Rajahmundry are Godavari bridge , cotton museum , Dowleswaram barrage , Gowtami ghat , Kotilingeswara temple , iskon temple and many more . I am from Kolkata, , whenever I go to any south indian cities like Bangalore , hydrabad or chennai the Railway passes through Godavari bridge . I amazed to see the river godavari , How wide it is in this place. It is an amazing view .

Godavari Bridge :

Godavari rail bridge is one of the longest road cum Rail bridge situated in near to the godavari Estuary . It was build in the year 1974 and it’s length is 4.1 km . It is a double decker bridge where in the lower level the train goes and in the upper level the bus and cars travel . You can see the beautiful scenary of the godavari river when slowly the train crossed the bridge . This bridge is a engineering marvel .

Boat cruise in Godavari :

Specially in the evening time from the goutami ghat this boat ride in godavari starts . This boats are operated manually and in one boat there will be 1-2 passenger .

Godavari is a very wide in this part and just opposite side of the goutami ghat there is only uninhabited land . This boat ride in godavari takes almost 1 hour and they will cruise near up to the old Railwy bridge . Sunset times are memorable in the godavari river .

Cotton Museum :

Cotton Museum rajahmundry

It is a museum dedicated to the british irrigation engineer Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton . who made godavari basin into a properious agriculture Hub . This museum has been opened in the year 1988 . He build numerious canals and barrages like Dowleswaram barrage which used the control water usage in godavari delta . The museum shows How this barrages changed this area . There are different models showing this .

This museum has been closed on Tuesday . The Entry price of this museum is just 10 INR .

Dowleswaram Barrage :

Dowleswaram barrage is an iconic structure and still used for irrigation and Flood control in this region . Above the barrage there is roads and in the downside there is gates to operate it . Dowleswaram barrage was built by Sir Arthur Cotton in 1852 who is a British engineer famous for flood control and water irrigation.

From the city centre, it was 12 km in distance. Some buses will drop near to the barrage.

Kadiyapulanka :

Kadiyapulanka is a village situated 8 km from the Rajahmundry city .You can see different flower cultivation spread across multiple acres. There are multiple nurseries in this area .

In every January there is a flower show festival where multiple nurseries show their flowers in this festival . People coming from the long distance to participate in this festivals .

Gowtami Ghat :

Gowtami ghat is one of the holiest ghats in Rajahmundry city . In the evening there is sandhyaarati . People come here for relaxation , spiritual feeling , boat rides and sun set .

In the time of krishna astami there is numerous festival in the ghat . Near by temple’s are ISKON temple , ayappa temple and a ganesh temple . I gone there few years ago , so I can remember the ganesh temple just outside the exit .

Kotilingeswara Temple :

Kotilingeswara temple also called Sri Umakotilingeswara Swamy Temple is one of the
secret places in Rajahmundry . This temple has been build in the 10 the century by chalukya kings and there is lots of shiva lingas .

Though koti means 10 million but there is numerous shiva lingas in this temple and according to the mythology Hindu god Indra make this and worshipped shiva to get rid from curse .

Umakotilingeswara Swamy Temple

iskon Temple :

Iskon temple in Rajahmundry is the second largest iskon temple after the ISKON temple in Bangalore of southern India . It is situated near to the Gowtami Ghat .

It is believed that sri chaitanya Mahaprabhu has worshipped here . on his memory in 2005 this temple was build .

Kakinda :

Kakinda is a port city in Andhra pradesh which is situated 60 km from the Rajahmundry city . This are some of the
places to visit near Rajahmundry . This city is mostly famous for the deep sea port but the nearby Hop Island is very popular among the offbeat tourists . As the beaches is crystal clear and there you can spent time alone . near to kakinda city there is coringa wildlife sanctuary which is a mangrove forest. In the city of kakinda uppada beach is one of the most popular .

Annavaram :

Annavaram is a city beside the river pampa . This city is famous for the temple Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy Temple which is dedicated to lord vishnu . this temple is situated in the top of Ratnagiri hill which is also famous among the tourists . This temple has been build in early 20 the century

Prasadam of the temple is laddu , pulihora and pongal . You can say this is a sacret place in andhra pradesh .

Maredumilli :

This is a scenic village in eastern ghats , famous for hills and tribal culture . It is 80 km from the city of Rajamahendravaram city . This area is surrounded with forest . People come here for relaxation or camping . There are numerous waterfalls in this area . Rampachodavaram reservoir is another attraction in this place .

Papi kondalu :

Papi kondalu is a hill city situated in the upper part of the river godavari . In telugu it means the middle part of the woman’s hair .

Water boat ride throughout the gorge of the river is an amazing journey . In this journey boat will stop to some of the holy places in this region .
