Amritsar Food

Amritsar Food are one of the best In whole north India . Amritsar foods are buttery , tasty and full of rich spices and mouthwatering . When I heart the name Amritsar it reminds me two thing Golden Temple – the holiest temple of sikhs and the rich food you can taste in this city .

I can say food in every stall are amazing . In the roadside you can taste Gulabjamun , rosogolla or different sweets or Lassi . In this city you can taste amazing Lassi which are only available in the narrow streets of this city with more than 100 years of trust and tradition . You can taste the beautiful amritsari kulcha with just raw butter covering it . It is like when I am writing this article my mouth was full of water by just reminding the famous food stalls of amritsar . People of the city are also very trustworthy they don’t charge you more in the auto or rishka and always having a welcoming behaviour .

I visited Amritsar in 2019 in the summer after just visiting the Himachal Pradesh . From Pathankot I took a bus toward the Amritsar . Road was fantastic and bus was running very fast . I reaches Amritsar in the evening and Today night I visited the Harminder Sahib in the city . It has four gates and inside the complex there is a huge pond and in the middle of the pond is the golden Temple . This pond is very auspicious for the sikh people and in the pond there is too much fish and when people throw the semolina prasadam fishes gathered there . No fish were hermed ever .

Today I take my dinner in Guru Ram Das lunger of the Golden Temple . If you come to golden temple you must try the lunger . It is something you must experience in Lifetime . 24 hour they serve food to the people coming in the temple . In one day normally 60000 – 70000 people taste lunger and in the time of Baisakhi purnima this crowd goes over 100000 people in a day . People serve free to prepare lunger . This is their devotion to God . There is big halls , Inside there lots of people eat food and food was served in the floor .

They served halwa , chapati , dal , potato currey ,payasam . There was a big tank full of water fitted over pulley to serve drinking water for the devotee . Food was simple but good for health . You have to take roti by joint hand in Namaskaram mudra . You will be amazed by how they just clean the dishes . It requires more than human power to work like that by the people older than 80 . It is very fascinating journey to the golden temple and there is no discrimination among the devotee on the base of rich /poor , religion or caste . Here everybody is same and everybody treated well . Sikh have a rich tradition of serving people . Stories tells their heroism for saving humanity and made supreme sacrifice .

Partion Museum

After the dinner in the Golden Temple I returned to my hostel . In the next morning I take a city tour to travel the side scene in this area and also the attari – wagha border . Here in India – Pakisthan border famous parade happens . In Morning breakfast , It was floppy Amritsari kulcha with a block of butter above it . It looks such delicious that just by looking it you feel hungry . It is served with the checkpeas curry with some onion chutney with it .

Kulcha is like a parotha which is stuffed with potato , onion and green chillie . To prepare a kulcha lots of ghee is used . It is crispey , floppy and very tasty bread where above it Dhania leave and mixed powder is spread . With those they give you achar and two masala chillie . It is such a amazing breakfast I can’t describe . You have to go to Amritsar to taste it .

Next start my day tour . First we reached a temple just 10-20 km from the centre point of the city . Then goes to Gobindnagar Fort . It is a fort made by King Ranjit singh . A fort where 7d shows happend about the fights of Punjab and glorious past of the Punjabis . They made it such a way that if rain happens it will reflect and also the fight . It is really you may try . In this museum lots of weapons and different items were preserved amoung them different coins( Toshakhana ) .

Next we travel toward War Heroes Memorial . Where by the light and sound they tells the heroic fight of the Sikhs and supreme sacrifice they made to protect their religion . This is story which will give tears in yours eyes How Guru gobind singh sacrifice his two minor sons in the battle and to protect their religions . Our Guide is a very Good narrator I must say . You should book the Hop on Hop off bus from the main road coming out from the golden temple to the Ranjit singh statue road . In the morning might be 8 am it leaves from here . It is not at all expensive . Now we start our final destination towards attari border .

Now starts our final journey toward the attari – wagah border . This border is one of the famous border between India and Pakistan where human and goods are transported from one side to the another . Here in every evening they marched in the road and then with full respect they bow down the flag and then closed down the gate . Here in this border there is a famous hotel “Shahi Qila” where both side food were served . You can taste Lahori Cusine and also the Indian Thali . I ordered a Indian thali . In that thali there was a butter soaked tandori roti then paneer butter masala and also some other items after finishing the lunch we entered the stadium .

There is lots of lots of people in the stadium in the both side of the road . From the both side there parade happens and they show proud about their army . Lots of patriotic songs were in the loudspeaker to create the mood . Here no one is bengali , punjabi , gujrathi , marathi , tamil , malaylam or north east people they are Indian . You must reach there to experiencing of being an Indian rather than anything else . After spending there 1 hour our bus returned towards the city . The bus come in the city around 7 in the evening .

Now I roam around the golden temple and finally planned to visit the famous Amritsari resturent “Kesar da Dhaba ” . This is a 100 yr old Dhaba with all the major dish made of pure ghee . The shop looks very simple , might be for long days they don’t change the look . Such is the reputation that you harly find seats in the peak time . Prices are very moderate and that is value for money . I ordered kulcha and chana and a lassi . After the dinner it was so full of stomach that I have to hire a rishka to come to my hostel . Now I make a deep nap .

Today is a tour of the food only . All the the day i walked here and there to just find best food shop in the city . In the morning I made the breakfast in the Local shop . I eat puri and sabji in the streets of the Amritsar . Then after First I take some sweets and then for the Lassi . In the google I find that Gyan di lassi is the best . It is almost 1-2 km distance from the Golden Temple and you have to reach there by lots of narrow streets .

Finally after following the google maps for almost 30 mins I reached this shop . In this shop they mix milk , curd , ice and then mix it well such that the mixture becomes thick . Now in this lassi they added matta(after the milk is cooled the solid parts floats over it ) and butter for garnishing which float above the lassi . It is such a amazing lassi that if you drink one glass of lassi you don’t need to eat anything for almost 3-4 hours . It is mind blowing and just satisfy you from the heart .

Famous restaurant in Amritsar

  1. Kesar di dhaba
  2. Gyan di lassi
  3. Brothers Dhaba
  4. Bharawan da dhaba

There is lots of other good restaurants but I named those what I see or eat .

In the after noon I reached banwar di dhaba and eat a veg meal . In the streets of Amritsar there is different types of veg chats available . Where ever you eat in the city this are all fantastic food . Today also I went to the Jaliwan walibag maidan where in the british time police open fired on people who attend some freedom movement speech . Here in the walls of this building there is marks of bullet fired by police and people in the fear jumped in a well to save them . People said still the color of water in the well is red such a blood flows in that incident .

Next I go to the Partition Museum where they presented the painful story of the country division and the story of riots spread between the hindu and muslim . Lakhs of people lost their life in this country division . Most of the Hindus in the west punjab comes in the punjab india and Muslims are departed from here . If you come in Amritsar you must see this two spots . They tell the stories of Indian History and give proof of the History .
