Napur situated in the middle of the India is one of the biggest city in Maharstra . It is called the ” Orange city ” for producing the Nagpuri Orange . It is the epicenter of the biggest Dalit religion coversion and the Birth Place of the Baba Saheb Ambedkar . It is also the place of the Hindutya ideological party RSS . Deekshabhoomi , Dragon Temple , zero mile point and the Narrow gauge museum are the most visited place in the city
Deeksha Bhoomi :
Deekshabhoomi is the place where in 14 th October 1956 Baba Saheb Ambedkar with his 600000 followers converted into Buddhism from the Hinduism . This is the biggest religion conversion in a single event in the Human History.
After the long fight in his life for the backward class he finally realized that the caste system is deep rooted in Hindu culture . So finally he converted into Buddhism and administered 22 vows in that place .
This vows were written in a stone plate in this area . It looks like the sanchi stupa in Madhya Pradesh and inside this building there is a Buddha statue and lots of stories and photos of Baba Saheb Ambedkar .
Deekshabhoomi is opened from 7 am to 8pm Daily and entry is free .
Freedom Park
This is a park build to remember the freedom struggle of India . In this park there is several Tank present to remember different fight fought by the Indian army . Beside this there is a big list of the poeple who martared during India’s freedom struggle .
Thid park is opens 24 hours and entry is free .
Zero Mile point :
Zero Mile Point was the geographical center point of the british colonial India .It was build by the british government in the time of great trigonometrical survry of india in 1907.
A hexagonal stone pillar was the Gegraphical centre point of the British India .
Gowari Shaheed Smarak :
On 23 rd November 1994 , 114 Gowari people (this are an ethnic community lived in the middle parts of India )were martered by the police in inhuman lathi charge in their march toward legislative assembly . They were going to the vidhan sabha bhavan to present their demand . In this incident almost 500 people were injured . Later this memorial was established to remember this stories .
Ambazari Lake :
This a big water lake inside the western side of the Nagpur and major source for the drinking water for the Nagpur city . This lake was made in the year 1870 . Beside the lake there is public park to relax in the evening time .
There is a big Swami Vivekananda statue in a meditative state just in the shore of the Lake .
Shree ganesh Mandir Tekdi :
This is a beautiful ganesh temple just near to the Nagpur railway station . Inside the temple is a big tree and benith this tree there is orange color ganesha sculpture . The whole temple complex is build around a tree .
This temple is 250 years old and the deity is believed to be self- existent . This temple is respected by the people of Nagpur and there is huge crowd in that temple .
The temple is opened daily from 6 am to 9 pm .
St Francis de sales Cathedrial :
This is one of the beautiful and oldest cathedral in Nagpur established in the year 1870 . This catheral was build in a European gothic style .
It is a yellow color building . This is one of the Historical building in the Nagpur city .
It is opened daily from morning 5 : 30 am to 6 : 30 am and in the evening 5:30 pm to 6 : 30 pm .
Narrow gauge Rail museum :
In my mind this Narrow Gauge Rail Museum is the best place to visit in the Nagpur city . Here just after entering you can see Narrow gauge railway line spreading all over the Park . Then after walking a little you can see a workshop like building where there is lots of old Steam Engine and some carriage Baggies . There you can see lots of instruments which were used to run the railway . You can see how the older signaling systems work in those days .
You can climb a old Steam engine and go into the engine cabin . Here you can see where the coals were put inside the engine . The wooden baggies , used in the nineteenth century were really impressive . Beside in a board there was a short description about the railway engine and Boggies and where it was made .
This museum opens daily except Monday from 10 : 30 am – 7 : 30 pm . Entry fees for this museum is 25 INR for indian adult .
Central Museum of Nagpur :
This museum was established in the year 1863 by sir Richard Temple and is one of the oldest Museum in India . Inside this museum you can see lots of statues , brass items , painting some unique sculptures of our gods . This sculptures were mostly found in the middle India .
It opens daily from 10 am – 5 pm except Monday . Entry ticket for the Indian adult is 10 INR .
Sochee Art Gallery and Shop :
This is a private paint and art show gallery . In the first floor you can see lots of painting and in the ground floor most of the art pieces are kept . You can also see artists workshop in the ground floor making art works and painting .
It opens daily from 10 :30 am – 8:30 pm . This is also the shop for the artifacts .
Sitabuldi Fort :
This fort was build in the year 1817 by British after they won this area in the Battle of Sitabuldi . After that they started building construction for the fort in this area for making protection of the local king .
In every travel website you can see this is most rated place to travel in Nagpur but you should note that this fort is under army control and in general you can not enter this fort normally . Only on sunday for a specific period you can enter this fort through a specific gate .
It is now under the military’s control so only on sunday you can visit this Fort from a specific gate all day from 10 : 00 am to 4 : 30 pm . There is no entry fee to enter the fort .
Maharaj Bagh Zoo :
Maharaja Bag Zoo is the only zoo in the city of Nagpur . Here you can see some chitals , small birds , crorordile , deer and tiger . But most of the cages were empty inside this zoo . Here the fish aquarium is really good .
Entry feed for adult is 30 INR and the zoo is opened daily from 9 am to 5 pm except saturday .
Dragon palace , ambedkar temple and Vipasana meditation centre :
In this complex there is three temple dragon temple , Ambedkar temple and the Vipasana meditation center . It is situated just outside the Nagpur city .
Dragon palace is a temple of Buddha made by japanes community . It was build in the year 1999 . It was the best structure in my mind in the city of Nagpur .
Baba saheb temple is situated just opposite to the Dragon palace complex . Inside the temple there is very big statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar .
There is also a unique burmes style building dedicated for vipasana Meditation .
Jungle Safari near Nagpur :
Near to the Nagpur there is some famous National Park like Pench National Park and the Tadoba National Park . This forest have the highest concentration of Tiger . Pench National Park is situated just 79 km from the Nagpur city in the Maharastra , Madhya Pradesh border and Tadoba National Park is situated 147 km in the south of Nagpur city .
Foods in Nagpur :
Nagpur is famous for Tari Poha , saoji foods , Matka Biriyani and ice gola . Saoji foods are the traditional foods of Nagpur which are super spicy . You can taste the tarri poha in Ramji shyamji Pohewale . You can also taste saoji food in the Jagadish Saoji Bhojanalaya .

Nagpur is situated almost in the middle of India and one of the biggest cities in India . It is the epicenter of the Dalit movement and lots of other movement in India . It is also the HQ of the RSS Political Party . Nagpur is also famous for the wild Life Safari . Pench National Park and the Tadoba National Park are two famous national park for the Tiger Reserve . It is also famous for the saoji food (which is the local cuisine , with over spicy food ) .
