Nohkalikai falls is India’s highest water fall by the direct water plunge from a point , situated in the state of Meghalaya and it is also the 4th heigheat waterfall in the world .In winter it totally vanished because of the lack of water . Nohakalikai falls source is rain water so in the monsoon months it looks very beautiful . It is situated near to the city of cherapunji and it is 53 km from the city of shillong . This place have been densely populated by forest . After the water touched the soil it breaks into small water particle making a fog like atmosphere in the base where is a blue pool of water .
Story
This is my first travel experience in North East India . This time I planned to travel to the state of Meghalaya . The name of the state suggest that it is fully covered with cloud and is also the wettest place on earth . Beauty of this place is such that it is called the Scotland of the east . It has a weave landscape covered with green grass . I have been here in 2017 . Food culture here is different than the rest of the India . Main food is pork and Beef and they chew beetelnut heavily.
From Shillong (capital of meghalaya ) I go with the govt organized tour towards cherapunji . It is very cheap and they also provide valuable information for the places . Our guide was a young lady . She always chew betel nut . You can find that every persons mouth is red color for the reason of eating betel nut and betel leaf . Now first we travel in the cherapunji and in the last we reached to the Nohkalikai falls.
It was a little cloudy day and weather was almost clear . From the roadside viewpoint I saw the waterfall . Though It was far almost a km still we can hear the roaring sound of this waterfall . It has a very painful story connected with the name of the waterfall . A woman suicide from the top of the waterfall .On her name the waterfall is named . I strongly feel that the name of the waterfall should be changed , such a intense beautiful waterfall should not remind such a pathetic story . This place have been covered with densely forest . I have been there in the rainy season so enjoyed the scene very well . In internet I saw that that now they have made stairs to go downward but when I was there , here was no stair to go downward . The waterfall has been separated by a dense forest and a stiff clefs
Beside this viewpoint there is a cafe to get some tea/coffee or get some light food like Maggie or snacks . I have taken food there and when other passengers take rest I made a video and watched this waterfall from this point . Finally our bus left for the Shillong and my time finishes with this waterfall.
How to reach Nohkalikai waterfall ?
This place is only connected by the road transport . It is connected with the capital Shillong BY SH5 to reach here which is 54 km from the town and it is very near to the cherapunji town . You can either hire a taxi or can take bus to reach here .
Nearest airport is shillong airport then comes the Guwahati airport (166 km ).
Nearest train station is Guwahati and silchar .
