Mount Sinabung is an active volcano . It erupts frequently from 2010 . In 2010 it erupted after 400 years of becoming dormant . People thought that , it becomes dead but since 2010 it erupted various times . Due to the frequent eruption lots of villages were displaced from the nearby areas . Becase of Pyroclastic flow after eruption , nearby village lands are very fertile . The place is absolutely beautiful and tons of vegetables were farmed here . Lots of flowers , fruits and vegetables are cultivated here . It is a free standing mountain . Nearby volcanic mountain is Mount Sibayak.
Among the local peoples Sinabung is a sign of danger . Ever since I said that “I come here to see sinabung “. They said “if you want to kill yourself then you may reach toward Sinabung . Any time it may blast ” You can see from the long distance that everytime smoke is coming out from the mouth of the volcano .

Mount Sinabung is a free standing mountain and it’s peak is in the elevation of 2460 meter . From the long distance you can spot the mountain .
From where you can see Mount Sinabung ?
There are certain village from where you can visit Mount Sinabung . This villages are Tiga Pancur village , Perteguhan village and Tiga Kicat village . Near to the bus stop of tiga Kicat there is a Cafe from where you can enjoy beautiful view of mount Sinabung . I take a capichino , made from local coffe and sit there almost an hour . Just in front , you can see a coffee plantation area . Danau lau kawar is the nearest place to mount sinabung legally . Normally it is the last human habitat near to the Gunung Sinabung .
Public transport is not available directly to Lau Kawar . so , you have to take a motorcycle to reach there . Lake here is very beautiful and lots of people come here for picnic .
How I reach Tiga Kicat ?
From Tugu Kol structure in berastagi I take a ankot toward simpang empat . This ankot dropped me in the Tiga Kicat village . It is almost 20 km from the berastagi city . From this area you can enjoy beautiful view of gunung sinabung .
If you walk a bit , then you can see fresh vegetables , flowers , strawberry , orange , coffee , cocoa and corns are growing just beside the road . In this road cars are very rare , mostly you can see motorcycles or tractors in this road . Weather here are little cold as you climb a little elevation .
Danau Lau Kawar :-
Lau Kawar is the nearest point to Mount sinabung . Though view from here is not so amazing but in this place there is a wonderful lake which is surrounded by Mountains . You can also boating in this lake . Weather here is cold and wind is very strong . Water of the lake is very clear . It is mostly popular among the local peoples . You can see lots of Indonesian tourist camping here . The area of the Lake is 200 acres and It is 27 km from the city of Berastagi .
mount sinabung volcano eruption:
After 400 years of becoming dormant finally it started erupted in the year 2010 . When sinabung erupts the dark smoke can reach upto 5 km in the cloud . Later it erupted in the year 2013 1nd 2014 . In 2014 eruption it claimed 23 lives . Later it erupted in 2015 , 2020 and 2021 . Govt issued warning to this area and a written warning was posted in the road junction .
